GOAL FOR THE TRACK:

 

How did it feel?

Overall did well

List three things the dog did well: 

  1. Good start on first track, searcher area and worked up track on first track

  2. Work well on track next to active road

  3. Did not run after freebies being tossed at park on second track

 

List three things you’d like to improve:

  1. Length of track and start without food

  2. Age of track

  3. Turns

 

Goal for next track:

 Add age to track from 15 minutes 25 minutes, do more open turns


Three things that looked good

  1. Nose down on track

  2. Stayed on track

  3. Did not need reinforcement to stay on first track

  1. When distracted getting back to tracking

Hi Lauritz! I'm looking forward to meeting you and your pup at some point soon (sorry we'll miss you Sat). The post Andrea mentions is in Myriam's blog with her dog Tilly. Jen's comment is on the Nov 19 post (I'd copy it but I think there's value you see the blog post and videos for context with the comments). You can also try layering in more reinforcement at the start (look at Myriam's Nov 21 map and description to see her use of scent pads at the start). In high distracting environments you might also want to augment the leg with scent pads. You were great being patient and letting him work through distractions; however, I would try to…

Track 1- Once he committed to the track, he started nicely. It did take him about 2.5 minutes (I'm sure it felt longer!) to assess the environment before he was ready to get to work. I don't have much experience with delayed starts so I'll let the others weigh in on that. Jen, I believe, had some good suggestions for Myriam and Tilly, who was also having a slow start day recently. I recommend going back and reading those comments on her tracks last week. Your patience, line handling, and stillness were very nice, both while waiting for him to start and while he is tracking. He definitely is very aware of his environment and wanting to stop to …
